There was great need in the villages. We headed out to Sindhupalchowk where the destruction was nearly comprehensive. Village after village after village was flattened as if a giant had stomped across the creased Himalayan landscape. Stunned survivors sat or stood by the piles of wood and stones that had once been their homes. They had nothing left and what we could cram in the van was so little – not enough. The scenes of devastation evoked sorrow and sympathy for the survivors.
